Star Wars is a theme in Irregular Webcomic!, with plotlines and jokes derived from the popular movie series. The jokes are split somewhat evenly between jabs at the contrivances and poor science of the movies and other, less acerbic jokes that aren't quite so critical. The theme first appeared as a crossover with the Space theme in which they encountered Jar-Jar Binks, and promptly slew him.

Characters Edit

Because these jokes are, by definition, within the Star Wars universe, the characters are the same as those in the movies. A few commonly recurring characters are:

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Qui-Gon Jinn

Jar-Jar Binks

Luke Skywalker

Yoda

Darth Vader

Coruscant ControversyEdit

Coruscant, the capital of the Republic (and later the Empire) in the Star Wars universe, has been the subject of some controversy on Irregular Webcomic! This stems from a strip David Morgan-Mar, the author, wrote in which the implausibility of the planet was brought up. Coruscant is portrayed as basically being an enormous city-planet, in which there is almost no land unpaved and no area unbuilt upon and no water. DMM expressed, through Anakin, a doubt that Coruscant could ever produce enough food or energy to sustain itself, and if it did use enough energy it would create surface temperatures that could melt lead.

The fan reaction to this was enormous. There were numerous emails to DMM, some offering theories as to how these issues could be dealt with and some criticizing DMM's apparently overcritical view. By the end of the brief series, DMM was joking less about the scientific implausibility of Coruscant and more about the intentionally zealous nit-picking on his own behalf, as well as the blind loyalty of some of the Star Wars fans who wrote to him.
